How much does counseling cost? My fee for couples counseling is $120 per session. I do offer a limited number of appointments at a sliding scale / reduced fee. If you are interested in consulting for your workplace or organization, EMAIL me for rates.
Do you accept insurance? I do not accept any insurance at this time. This allows me to work with you without having to give you a diagnosis. Typically, insurance companies only pay for things that are “medically necessary.” This means that a counselor has to diagnose you with a "mental health disorder" and show that it is impacting your health on a day-to-day basis. As you know, many of the problems we experience (loss of a loved one, infidelity, career changes, etc.) are not mental health disorders.
I will supply you with a receipt in case you have an HSA plan or are trying to obtain reimbursement from your insurance provider, although reimbursement is not guaranteed by Randy C. Scott Counseling & Consulting; talk to your insurance provider if you have questions.
What type of payment do you accept? Check, cash, and credit cards.
How is couples counseling different than individual counseling? This is one of the first things we will talk about at your first couples counseling session. In individual counseling, one of you would be my client who has a problem they want to work on. In couples counseling, neither of you are my actual client -- your relationship is my client. I want to get to know about your relationship, how it began, what makes it stronger, what hurts it. The two of you and I will work together to figure out what your relationship needs to grow and become stronger. Couples counseling is not about "fixing the bad partner" it is about addressing the problems that are hurting your relationship.
How do I pick a counselor? I believe you should ask yourself these questions: Do I trust this person? Do they 'get it' when I tell them something? Does this counselor see me as a person or just as my problem? What is the point of this whole counseling process anyway? I try to address these questions HERE. If you have more questions, please ask them in your free initial 30 minute phone conversation.
Where are you located? My office is on the 13th floor of the Cabrini Medical Tower at 901 Boren Ave. on First Hill in Seattle. Parking is available on the street and in the parking garage. You can find more information including pictures of my office HERE.
What are your hours? I am available Monday through Friday at my Seattle office on First Hill with appointments available throughout the day and the evening. Make sure to let me know what works best for you during our initial telephone conversation!
